Introduction to Sociology / Aging / Na Kyung Lee

1. Summary

Aging is a biological and sociological process that human beings experience and achieve both biological and social maturity. And aging is a relatively objective biological process and experiences various biological development. Aging is a series of social processes that interpret, negotiate, and imply the biological development of an existing notion.

Human life is often divided into various ages. Infancy, Toddler, Childhood, Adolescence, Young adult, Prime adulthood, Middle age, Old age are age spans. These distinctions are arbitrary but generally reflect a degree of similarity.

Socially Constructed Interpretations of Aging
Aging is a biological and social process, but the way people relate to age is different from how people interpret age and interpretation. The label of " Old " and " Youth " depends on life expectancy. Activities expected from other age groups are socially constructed and relate to culture.

2. New / Interesting things

Through this data, I learned that aging is related to biological aspects and relates to social aspects. And I also learned that there are various ways to interpret age according to cultural things. I have never thought about the sociological analysis of the aging, and it was nice to learn about the new content of the aging.

3. Discussion Point

As the aging progresses, conflicts between the elderly and the other age group are occurring. I think this conflict occurs because of differences in values between generations. Then, what do we do to resolve the conflict between these generations? I would like to discuss this.

Comments

  1. I think we need to have a change of value. The beginning of action is thinking. You change your mind, you change your behavior, and you can resolve the conflict. We need to change the notion that we don't understand the generation gap.

  2. Older generations should not force young people to do their own methods or values. The wisdom and experience of their lives should be passed down to the next generation.
Young people should be more respectful of the elderly. Also, the younger generation should try to understand the older generation.
