1. Summary

At first glance, demography and sociology seem to be a non-related field. However, when explaining social phenomena, the population analysis is a vital tool. This web page talk about demography. Demography provides vital indicators to identify social patterns, such as fertility and Mortality rates. The major subjects of demography include immigration, population growth and overpopulation, urbanization.

2. Interesting, New thing

It was interesting that in developed countries and developing countries, children had different economic values. In advanced countries, children are forced to do not work and pay a lot of money for childcare. Thus, the child causes economic losses. On the other hand, in developing countries, children are cheap labor force to use on farms, thereby bringing financial benefits to their parents. I didn't understand why the birth rate in developing countries was high, because I thought child was an economic burden to parents everywhere.

3. Discussion Point

Overpopulation is an obvious social issue. The nation must work hard to solve this problem. By the way, is it the right way to enforce the birth control policy to solve this problem? In China, there were occasions where the second child had failed to register, and countries with a notion of preferring a son to a daughter had problems with abortion of female. Can it be acceptable to limit the number of children beyond the level of recommendation?

Comments

  1. I agree with your opinion that overpopulation is a problem. However, I do not think that the solution to overpopulation is the policy of controlling birth control. To solve overpopulation problems, it is important not to control birth, but to create a hedge against the rising population.
