Can we think of a charismatic, traditional and rational legal leader or government in our history?/Jinsu Bae
Before writing a topic, why do we study history? It is because the hint of the problem that exists in the present is in history. This is one of the teaching rules to learn before studying history. There must have been similar problems in the past that we now experience. Thus, history is also a discipline to compare with the present.
Returning to our point of view, our society is not complete. We are just maintaining a one system. So, what if we can find out what we lack in our society from historical examples? To answer this question, I will look at King Sejong, one of the kings representing the Korean peninsula.
Rational and charisma leader, King Sejong
First, I will introduce King Sejong King lightly. King Sejong is the 4th king of Joseon. Born on May 15, 1397, he was very crafty unlike the kindness we know. But this cunning turned to wisdom as he reigned as king. He lowered himself, saw the people at the same level of eye and compiled 'Nongsa jikseol'. 'Nongsa jikseol' is a book on how to make rice farming more effective. In addition, we have created 'Hangeul', which has a Korea identity. And he developed astronomy and pioneered '4gun 6jin' as a defense policy. Also, he flexed the relationship between Japan by using conciliatory and hard-line policies.
King Sejong achieved various accomplishments. However, this was also possible because King Sejong, who was based on kingly rule, was able to spread his thoughts as a king. In addition, he was able to go on a long-term project because of a long period of tenure.
What do modern leaders look like? Most modern leaders have short terms in office. Also, if the conflict between progress and conservation persists, the president cannot exert a great deal of force. And it is difficult to implement a flexible policy as a member of the ruling party(ex. conservative party is strong conservative)
In the modern society where conflict is deepening, if we can bring a character of the past charismatic leader like the question above, how will our society change?
