Introduction_to_Sociology/Aging/Geonwoo Lee

1.summary

This text describes aging. First, aging is a biological and sociological process. Through this process, humans experience and achieve biological and social maturity stages. Although aging itself is a biological process, there are many ways in which people and cultures interpret their age. Biological age and subjective age may also be different. This subjective age focuses on how it varies with age. Humans can divide their lifespan into different ages. This distinction is somewhat arbitrary, and is generally a period of life that reflects a certain degree of similarity. Depending on your life expectancy, the labels of old and young may vary. For example, in the sphere of society where life span is short and premature death means is common, middle age can be considered as the elderly. The different age groups are discriminated against. The majority know about abuse of elderly people, but they do not realize that young people are discriminated against. This discrimination starts with the recognition that there is a lack of maturity to make a serious decision. Discrimination against young people is a limitation of the act, but discrimination against the elderly is an area of physical abuse. Elderly abuse can be divided into various types, and the elderly who are discriminated against are twice as likely to die as those who are not. Then there is the stereotype that older people tend to be more conservative and less flexible. These stereotypes are not true. Rather, they can change their views proficiently and become idiomatic.

2.interesting

I was interested in the stereotypes of old people. These stereotypes were thought to have not only what the elderly themselves have but also those who looked around the elderly. Of course I am also included. I felt that the elderly could not keep up with the changes of the times, but this was not true. These were false preconceptions about the elderly and overlooked the efforts of the elderly. I have seen articles before. It was said that when an adult man grows older, female hormones emerge to soften her personality. When I think of all of these things, I immediately realized that the stereotypes mentioned above were not true.

3.discussion point

Young people are discriminated against because of their age. This is because we feel that we are not mature in making important decisions. But in the text, some young people are more mature than their peers. This is getting a lot of attention these days. In Korea, the government is trying to lower the voting age by saying there is no difference between 19 and 20 years old. I think first of all there is some difference between these ages. Responsibility. So what do you think?
