1. Summary
Stratification of sociological meaning is what makes people in a society different. Opinion on stratification in modern sociology is prevailed by Max Weber's opinions. Max Weber divides social classes based on power, property, and prestige. Power means how one can act on others. Property means all property accumulated by an individual. Prestige refers to the recognition and respect of society for a person's status. Weber categorized social classes based on these three factors. Weber's theory is widely used because it explains social stratification phenomenon.
2. What was interesting/What did you learn
In society, there are various social members. Although power and property are the upper class, there may be people whose prestige is lower class. Then, is this the upper class or the lower class? Max Weber's theory is interesting because of explaining this status inconsistencies. Max Weber's social stratification theory can account for this status inconsistency because he divides people based on power, property, and prestige.
3. Discussion Point
Everything can not be equal within a society. Inequality is not necessarily negative. So, what can be done to break the negative effects of inequality?
