Introduction to Sociology/Social Movements / minji Moon

1.summary
Social movement is the broad collective action of people who want to prevent social change or affect society in a society. Social movements are linked to political parties or highly organized interest groups, pressure groups, and institutionalized groups. Sometimes social movements develop into the formation of political parties, but at the outset it begins informally.

When you read this article, you can also see the types of social movements and the stages of development.

There are many theories about social movements.
First, the deprivation Theory
argues that people do social movements to fill their deficits.
Structural-Strain Theory is based on this deprivation theory.
This theory introduces six elements for social movement development.
Resource-Mobilization Theory
argues that social change occurs when members who are dissatisfied with society have enough goods for social change.
However, some social movements are more important to the movement members than to the goods.
This theory is not necessarily true.
Political process theory is similar to Resource -Mobilization Theory

However, while resource mobilization theory emphasizes financial aspects, political process theory emphasizes resistance, organizational and political opportunities
On the other hand, there is also a culture theory that has accepted and developed both above theories.

Examples of social movements include environmental movement and human rights movement.

2. interesting point
It was interesting that there are so many theories about social movements.
After reading these theories,
I realized that social movements are not just happening, but can happen when there are various factors.
It was particularly interesting that the financial and political aspects should be combined.

3.discussion point

I think that social movements are necessary for the right society.
Last year and early this year, I think that the social movement to drive out the Park Geun - hye government was the most necessary for our society.
What social movements are most needed in our society these days?
