1. Summary
A race is a human population that is believed to be distinct in some way from other humans based on real or imagined physical differences.
Ethnicity, while related to race, refers not to physical characteristics but social traits that are shared by a human population.
From the Book of Gates to the US Census, the definition of race has changed.
Racism and Minorities, Racial Stratification are also explained.
2. Interesting point
Minorities did not necessarily mean quantitatively small.
And, majority is that segment of the population that outnumbers all others combined or one that is dominant.
The ethnic minorities are under pressure to be assimilated into the majority, including the difficulty of finding jobs due to language.
The assimilation of minority groups into majority groups are racism.
Assimilation can be divided voluntary or forced.
To escape prejudice and discrimination & To upward social mobility, immigrants takes the steps to integrate into the new environment. its called Voluntary assimilation.
I don't know why it is classified as word 'voluntary assimilation'
3. Discussion
Is there a way to verify someone's race?
I think it will be very hard to find a way to distinguish other people 's race at a glance.(And it's rude smh )
And there will not be any difference if scientifically precise research is done for a long time.
Now that we are all mixed up (like 45% american 13% latino 7% british 12%asian ...&&&) , verifying is useless.
I think the way to verify race exists, but the process is very hard and a lot of harness.
ReplyDeleteIn my think the way to verify someone's race doesn't need to exist.
