Introduction to Sociology/Race and Ethnicity/doeun lee

1.     Summary

The division of race is based on physical differences. This follows the biological classification.
But often the concept of race affects the identity of social identity and social hierachies.
The classification of races has been constantly changing. Racism is an important issue in society and will continue to be classified.
Unlike race, Ethnicity are classified according to their social characteristics. Focus more on culturally connected groups.

Racism is the claim that certain races must be treated differently in all racial categories, with superior or inferior prejudice, in essence, than others.
Racism violates human rights and dignity. Therefore, modern society is trying hard to eliminate such racism.

2.     New/Interesting things I learned

In the US race classification chart, it is interesting to note that the classification continues to change, indicating that race is socially constructed. I have so far considered race to be a biological classification exclusively. It was data that reversed my existing thinking.

3.     Discussion point

Racist stereotypes are extremely dangerous. There are studies that the US major news programs (ABC, CBS, NBE, etc ..) described 81% of domestic terrorists as Muslims, but only 6% were Muslims. This problem is very old and chronic. In modern society is this problem being fixed, or is it just stagnating? How can we solve this problem? It is a very fundamental problem, but I want to continue to think about it because it is a problem that can not be solved easily.
