Introduction to sociology/race and ethnicity/bokyungKim

1.     SUMMARY

This writing talks about race and ethnicity. Race is a group of human beings distinct from others. Race can be distinguished by morphological characteristics. Race can be related with biology, genetics. A combination of social factors, biology, and genetic factors can help you understand race. The definition of race is changing over time. Prejudice is what we pre-judge before we learn. Prejudice is often created with false social stereotypes. Prejudice or bias that certain races are superior or inferior to other races can lead to racism. Racism includes individual racism, structural racism, cultural racism, historical racism, and so on. There are many cases in which minority groups are discriminated against. An example is that a small number of groups are absorbed and assimilated into multiple groups. Assimilation has a negative impact on the culture of ethnic minorities. After European colonialism, the discipline of racial and ethnic groups grew rapidly. There have also been many attempts to justify racial discrimination. And so far, racial discrimination and inequality have continued.

2.     INTERESTING POINT

I have always been interested in race and ethnicity. It was good to know more about what I was curious about and what I was interested in through this writing. I am very sorry that discrimination and inequality still continue. I hope that such discrimination and inequality will disappear. Still, I am glad that there is more understanding and respect for other races than in the past.

3.     DISCUSSION POINT

Suppose you are a member of a minority. National majority try to assimilate your ethnicity. What will you do to protect your ethnicity and culture? I wonder what you think.

Comments

  1. Assuming that I am a minority, if the great powers try to assimilate our nation, I will ask for help from international organizations. Race is a fact that each group must be respected and it is also stated in international organizations. By doing so, we will preserve the ethnicity of our race.

  2. If I am a minorities, I don't think national majority's try assimilating our ethnicity is bad. Because it would be a way for me to adapt myself to that country naturally. But to protect my culture, I will continue to show a series of signs that not infringe my culture to the international community.
