Is the civil movement and the riot in Korea?

The difference between peaceful collective action and riot

Examples of collective action and definition of riot

Group behavior refers to voluntary social processes among members of society or events that occur in the process. Examples include religious revival groups, the independence movement against Japan, and the Gwangju Democratization Movement. Here, the forces that rebelled against the independence movement and the democratization movement were riot and suppressed by force. This riot in Wikipedia was a form of civil disorder characterized by a chaotic group of abrupt and violent violence, destruction or other crime. Then can I call such a movement a riot? I do not think so.
The reason why the civil movement in Korea is not a riot is that the riot should be included in the armed forces. The above movements did not use any kind of force and the crowd went on the peaceful line. It was just a movement of students who wanted to protect democracy in Korea and citizens who wanted to protect our country, Korea.

New/Interesting things I learned

What I was interested in doing this blogging was that I learned the exact concept of the riot. Before this posting, I did not know the exact concept of the riot and did not know the difference between peaceful movement and riot. But in this posting we have understood the exact concept of the riot and will accurately refute our peaceful collective action to those who call it a riot.

Discussion Point

As I mentioned above, I wonder why this movement is called a riot. What do you think?

Comments

  1. I think the notion of riots was the government's designation denounced at that time.
The peaceful protest of the citizens was something that had to be suppressed by the government. The quickest way to disperse the protesters is violence. The government first used violence and citizens resorted to violence to survive. These situations can be found in the movie ' Taxi driver. '(2017). People from outside might say that it was a riot simply. It was always the government who told them that the citizens were insurgents.

  2. I think that's the difference in perspective. Assume a group A and a group B. At this time, phenomenon C brought benefits to the group A, and damages to the group B. Then, this behavior is a movement in A's position, and a terror in B's position. So we have to look at the situation of the times. Also sometimes it is important to discriminate whether we are A or B.
