Introduction to Sociology/Collective behavior/yerim park

1. what is Collective behavior?

Although actors are seeking collective achievement, it seems that social dilemma or collective action dilemma occurs when each actor 's interest is narrow or small and does not contribute to public goals. In such a case, rational behavior at each individual level contradicts the situation of all members. The social dilemma is integrated into a deficient equilibrium, a stable performance that all actors prefer less. Nonetheless, performance is stable because no one takes advantage of changing one's behavior unilaterally.

2. but...

People are always dissatisfied with politics and demanding change, but as time goes by and the way individualistic thinking becomes more prevalent, the demand for change often takes a passive approach.

Why are people's collective actions decreasing in the process of modernity, capitalism, and democracy?

I think..
First, society has become diverse and complex and people have become less interested in politics.
Second, there are cases in which members of the society are already unable to judge and understand the truth by too much information.
third, we consider the inefficiency of collective action more.

The more reasonable people are, the more likely they are to focus on the interests of individuals, and then the more people who do not participate in collective action, the more likely they are to become increasingly unreasonable. But I think it is necessary to multiply the meaning of my participation in the formula of low benefit. Not all actions can bring about change. And it is not without meaning that not all actions cause change. It is reasonable that law without meaning is legal to be banned, but the act of politics of people is not meaningless because the owner suggests whips and guidelines for agents.

3. AND THEN..

There are two categories of Collective behavior dilemmas.

the Free rider: The free rider problem occurs when an actor tries to enjoy the common good without contributing to the resources needed to create or maintain the common good. Actors are not willing to contribute to the group good.

The tragedy of the commons: It occurs when each individual consumes the common good, which reduces the quality of resources for all members. The actor intends to consume it without considering the damage of the common good.

4. So

We have to do collective action. Rather than calculating the reason for not doing collective action and explaining it, we need a valuable 'action'.
