Summary)
We live a lot of collective action. So what is collective
action? Group behavior refers to social processes and events that do not
reflect existing social structures but appear in a "voluntary"
manner. Group behavior can be defined as nonconforming behavior or deviant
behavior.
The reason for studying collective behavior is to understand
how people behave in rioting, what drives them out, and how they can come to a
conclusion quickly. And actually to change social factors.
A crowd is a group of people who share purpose or intention.
Theories of mass behavior include Contagion Theory, Convergence Theory, and
Emergent-Norm Theory. The theory of contagion suggests that the crowd exercise
their hypnotic influence on their members. The effects of hypnosis are combined
with anonymity that belongs to many people, resulting in unreasonable and
emotional behavior. And the craze of the crowd is somehow infectious like
disease, and infection increases in time, and it feeds itself. Convergence
theory claims that the behavior of the crowd is not the emergence of the crowd,
but the result of gathering people of the same mind. Emergent-Norm Theory
claims to combine the above two theories to combine individuals with the same
thoughts, anonymity, and common feelings to drive mob actions.
Panic is a sudden fear that dominates thought and often
affects a group of people. Crisis generally occurs in disaster situations and
can jeopardize the overall health of the affected population. Moral panic is a
popular movement based on the perception that any individual or group, often a
minority group or subculture, poses a threat to society. This panic is
generally triggered by media coverage of social issues.

Hysterics,
a diagnostic label that applies to mental conditions, one of the more difficult
to manage or emotional excesses, was of interest. Hysterical people say fear is
overwhelmed and often loses control. When I was overwhelmed by fear, I could
see that it was hysterical.
It was also interesting that the rumors traveled so that they were shorter,
shorter, and easier to catch. About 70% of the details of a message are said to
be lost in the first 5 to 6 transmissions. And negative rumors spread more
easily than positive rumors. Rumors can be a political communication strategy.
It was also interesting that the media and the specific culture - historical
situation can promote the spread of rumors. I learned from this that I should
not believe rumors.

There is a dilemma of collective action. The dilemma of
collective action is that a group or potential group does not voluntarily make
an effort for the common good. Individuals do not try because I think that if I
do not try, someone will solve this and I just have to pay for it. This is
often referred to as the 'free ride' tendency. The dilemma of this collective
action is also a big problem in Timpel in college. What are some examples and
solutions to this group action dilemma? I would like to discuss with you.
