1. SUMMARY
Stratification affects our lives. Stratification refers to hierarchical arrangement in society. Stratification has various kinds, such as economic inequality, gender inequality, and racial inequality.
Socioeconomic status generally measured in three ways: power, property and prestige.
Power is the capacity to do it at one's disposal. Legal power is authority, but power to arms is called coercion. Property is the sum of their possessions and regular income. Prestige is the respect associated with social status.
Although these three indicators are generally proportional, there are cases where they are not, as opposed to, funeral director.
Talk about the social class of U.S, the gap increased after 2007-2009 the Great Recession and accounted for about one-fourth of the US's total income which accounts for 1% richest people in the US.
The origin of inequality begins with a large change in society. Changes in hunting and gathering from the agricultural community create a human settlement. The settlement of a settled man has accumulated wealth and can be done below the beginning of the gap between the haves and have-nots.
There are still many reasons for inequality to persist, and inequality is still unsustainable and inequality can not be resolved without conscious changes.
There is also a functional perspective on stratification theory. Even though a stratification results in poverty, it contributes to the overall stability of society. Stratification and inequality are inevitable, and are indispensable for the stability of society. That is, they deserve greater rewards because they are entrusted with important positions for competent people.
On the flip side of the coin, however, the conflict theory says that stratification is harmful to society. Stratification gives benefit to only rich people at the expense of poor people.
2. what was interesting
It was interesting that even in any country that aimed for equality, the stratification were still working naturally. Also, in England and Japan, it is still a symbolic meaning of the king's position, but it is still questionable whether it is fair to argue that it is still transparent to the present. In particular, stabilizing the society by stratification, I came to think about it is possible for the stability of society to justify the sacrifices of the poor people due to stratification?
3. Discussion
If the inequalities caused by stratification are wrong, would it be possible to
eliminating vested rights people solve inequality and promote the stability of society in order to achieve equality in society?
