Introduction to Sociology / Q&A (11/21)/HARIKIM

Q. If Korea wants to remain an economic power as it is today, it will have to be more open to women who want to have both kids and career. Would you agree or disagree with them?

A.
I agree. I think the ability of a girl with a child is bigger. It will work harder for others than for others, and there will be more to learn from children. And not hiring a woman to have a child is an obvious discrimination. Therefore, the company should not discriminate against women who have children.

Q. How many wars are currently happening? And how many people have died in those wars last year?

A.
According to a clash survey, 23,000 people were killed in armed conflict in Mexico in 2016, followed by 17,000 in Iraq, 16,000 in Afghanistan and 7,000 in Yemen. According to the IISS, the number of deaths from armed conflict worldwide is about 150,000, down about 10,000 from last year. However, the civilian suffering caused by the war increased more than last year.

Q.  Why is terrorism seen as such a danger, if so few people have been affected by it?

A.
Because all kinds of accidents make people who are not on the spot feel fear through indirect experience. Moreover, the intentional harm of a person like terrorism basically makes strangers afraid. And terrorism is also breaking down the social order. So I think people are afraid of terrorism.
