Introduction to Sociology / Q&A (11/21)/Bokyung Kim

Q1. If Korea wants to remain an economic power as it is today, it will have to be more open to women who want to have both kids and career. Would you agree or disagree with them?

A1. I agree. Because if a talented woman exits her job because she has a kid, it is like abandoning a talented person in society. It will weaken Korea's economic power. Therefore, even if a woman has a kid, she should not be disadvantaged or sent out at work. It is necessary to improve the welfare system and social awareness so that women who have kids can continue their work.

Q2. How many wars are currently happening? And how many people have died in those wars last year?

A2. Recently, many wars have taken place in Syria, Mexico, Iraq and so on. In Syria, 50,000 people died in civil war, 23,000 in Mexico and 17,000 in Iraq. It is estimated that more than 100,000 people died in the war in 2016.

Q3. Why is terrorism seen as such a danger, if so few poeple have been affected by it?

A3. I do not think the number of poeple affected by terrorism is important. The problem is that an innocent person suffers from terrorism. It is also more dangerous because there is no way to prevent terrorism, Therefore, even if the number of people who have suffered damage due to terrorism is small, we should consider terrorism as a danger.
