Introduction to Sociology / Q&A (11/21) / Taerim Kim

  1. Howe et al. recommend that if Korea wants to remain an economic power as it is today, it will have to be more open to women who want to have both kids and career. Would you agree or disagree with them?

  1. I agree with that idea. I think nowadays women's achievement need in their career is higher than any other time.  Because self-realization has become a big deal in women's lives. They even ready to abandon their plan to have a baby, if that plan disturbed their career. But in Korea, in most circumstances, women with a baby gets unfavorable opportunities. So I think if the government wants to remain an economic power as it is today, they'd like to support infant care, So women who have children not to fell behind.

  1. Why is terrorism seen as such as danger, if so few people have been affected by it?
  2. I think media makes people believe that s/he could be the one of them who died of terrorism. Media doesn’t show the people who died because of police gunshot or died by heart disease everytime that kind of death happens. But if terrorism happens, every media pay attention to that terrorism. What was the motivation, is s/he worked for I.S and so on. Because media makes people to see terrorism as fearable(actually it is, but I think they give more horror to terrorism), people naturally have more fear of terrorism.
