Q. What toys are marketed for boys, and what for girls?
What do we learn through playing with gendered toys?
A. Cars, robots and dinosaurs are marketed for boys, Barbie dolls and house play sets are marketed for girls. We are strengthening our gender stereotypes without knowing ourselves by growing with them. For example, when a boy plays house, people tells him that he is not a man, or when a girl plays with a robot, people rob it and give her a Barbie doll.
Q. Can we see some geographical patterns?
Can we try to explain them?
A. The more advanced countries where welfare develops, the higher the gender equality index. In developing countries, the stronger the religious color, the lower the gender equality index. I wonder why South Africa and Mongolia are particularly high in the continent where the gender equality index is generally low.
