Introduction to Sociology/ Conflict Theory/ Sujin LEE

1. summary

Conflict theory is the theory studying sociological phenomena with conflict. Because of the scarcity of wealth, grandeur and power of people, conflicts arise in the process of acquiring them. Therefore, it is inevitable that the vested interests of those who predominate these scarce resources will force them to impose favors on them and deter the formation of the order. In perspective of conflict theory, education is that the ruling class teach values to young students for advantage to control. In addition to education, social phenomena such as policing, religion, and law are studied in conflict theory.

2. Interesting point

I was interested in the views of conflict theory in religion. In conflict theory, religions justify the current state of affairs and prevent social changes. And also, in the theory, Most religions also justify the discriminatory treatment of gender discrimination, such as sexism and identity discrimination.

3. Discussion point

The conflict theory argues that conflicts arising from social and cultural phenomena are natural and that the conflict creates good results. However, there are many things that lead to better outcomes in society with cooperation and harmony. Thus, I believe that the conflict theory is overlooking cooperation and harmony in social phenomena. What do you think about it?
