Introduction to Sociology/ Conflict Theory / Mingyeong Kim

1. Summary

Conflict theory does not view conflict as negative. The basic premise of conflict theory is that we try to maximize our share of limited resources. That is why conflict is considered inevitable. Conflicts arise from human interaction, and inequality is embedded in the social structure. Conflicts arise from inequality, which limits the lower class and the upper class maintains its power. This conflict can be applied to democracy, socialism and dictatorship, not just to a specific country.

2. New learning/ Interesting things

Conflict in society sounds like a negative in society, but it is interesting that it is a conflict of interest. In addition, I realized that I could play the role of a theory in terms of politics and dictatorship as well as in democratic countries and dictatorship.

3. Discussion

Conflicts are partly agreed upon in the position of conflict theory, which is the driving force behind society. But I still believe that conflicts are more likely to degrade society, rather than causing social progress, rather than causing social development. So what do you think?

Comments

  1. I agree with your opinion. It is true that conflicts are more common than achieving harmony. However, I do not think that society is progressing because of conflict. Severe conflict, such as war and terrorism, causes social chaos instead of social development.

  2. It is true that conflict can degrade society. However, I believe that the consequences of developing a society in which conflict exists can take place in a better society. It seems that it is too conservative to be concerned about the decline in society and to avoid conflict.
