Introductio to sociology/Stratification/seungyeon Yang

1)
Stratification exists everywhere, whether it is a livable country or not. This stratification is defined through ‘ SES ’. Structural-functionalism and conflict theories thought stratification quite the opposite. Structural-functionalism thought stratification is reasonable because the importance of people's jobs is different. However, this point has a problem that does not explain some of the irrational aspects. Conflict theory thought stratification is harmful to society. They argue that the rich make the poor to work for them and give low wages. However, conflict theorist underestimate successful people who tried hard.

2)
In highschool, I read a book about stratification in America. Many people think America is rich country and don’t have disease about cleanliness. But the book said many America children die because they can’t receive treatment at time. I was very surprised after read that book. But through this chapter I can understand that phenomenon is occurred to stratification.

3)
Since surplus production has become possible, stratification has continued. The fixation of the hierarchy will hurt our society. How can we mitigate the stratification?

Comments

  1. The mitigation of stratification is likely to be income redistribution. In the end, I think that the rich and poor have a stratification in the economic aspect. It is reasonable to be compensated for by their own efforts, but I think it is a solution to systematically redistribute income in order to alleviate the whole society.
