1. Summary
This wiki page explains
socioeconomic status, the origins and reasons of inequality, the perception of
inequality of some sociological theories, the main elements of inequality, levels
of stratification, and the global inequality.
stratification has existed for a long time and affects
every part of our lives. The development of gardening technology has
brought change from hunter/gatherer society to horticultural/pastoralist
society; this society has surplus of goods, inequality begins. Inequality
persists by socialization that leads to allow their class and
culture that teaches to protect inequality. Stratification is divided into 3
levels (Micro, Meso, Macro) depending on the size of the group that interacts
with. Macro level equal global stratification.
2. Interesting or New thing
I lightly learned about Structural-Functionalism on Stratification
in high school subject “Social & Culture”, but I couldn’t find words to
explain exactly what I feel strange. So, this page’s question of the problem of
this theory was very helpful. I think it is a deception that most countries educate to public everybody has equal opportunities for individuals, and if they endeavor to succeed, it is deceitful.
3. Discussion point
Joel Charon
resists technological and economic development facilitate the transfer of
wealth; it has the potential to increase inequality. This part was impressive
to me. Before I read it, I think only one aspect that technology will help make
democratic decisions and solve inequality. In that sense, I want to ask you “Does
the development of technology contribute to the inequality or depending of
inequality?”
