Introduction to Sociology/Socialization/yerim park

1. Summary

S ocialization is a fundamental sociological concept, comprising a number of elements. Socialization is a life process, but is generally divided into two parts.( primary socialization, secondary socialization ) Socialization is important. This is because primary socialization in infancy and secondary socialization in society are formed by individual characteristics. For example, a wolf child who grew up in the wild did not experience primary socialization, so she does not know how to use any tools. In this way, socialization is to educate the elements of human society at home. Likewise, secondary socialization learns economic and social elements through education. Peer relationships also play an important part in socialization. This relationship is a socialization that can not be missed in human life. For example, joining a group. By joining the group, we observe norms and socialize in groups. Therefore, it is important to join the right group and establish the right values.

2. Interesting Point

It is socialization that the process of being able to act as a human being by learning the culture such as the norms, values, behavior style of the social group in which the person belongs is socialization. Then, after becoming an adult, a new lifestyle and behavior The process of learning norms is re-socialization. From birth to adolescence, if the cognitive process of self-formation and social value is called primitive socialization centered on family, neighbors, school, etc., it is re-socialization to adapt to new situations as adults.

This process is required in many fields. For example, in response to unemployment, you should provide resocialization so that you can adapt to a changing society that has the opportunity to choose another job for the unemployed.

In the digital economy era, it is necessary to concentrate on education for expanding the information mindset and education for re-socialization by establishing the senior professional bank for the first time in consideration of the necessity of economically and socially neglected classes.

Thus, re-socialization refers to the socialization that occurs when one role is abandoned and another role is taken in a short time. In addition, when they come back to society, such as disabled people, family members, soldiers, and criminals, they must learn new socialization processes to adapt to the new environment.

3. Discussion point

Q. Is the individual passive or active in the process of socialization?

I think that we form self through socialization.
These selves are actively expressed.
Because, through interaction, we recognize and develop ourselves. I think this relationship is the beginning of active. I will support my opinion through Herbert Mead theory.
Herbert Mead thinks that individuals are not products of society that act according to the norms required by society. In other words, he argues that he is the subject who actively leads his world by defining objects and situations according to his subjectivity and giving meaning to them.

Comments

  1. I think this is case by case. Those who are not interested in socializing are passive and will not participate actively and Those who are interested in socializing are active in socializing.
