Introduction to Sociology/Politics/Soljin Bae

1. Summary

This text explains us about politics which is very important in our sociology. It starts with a brief introduction about politics. According to this text, government has power, authority, and violence. There is 6 types of governments: monarchy, democracy, totalitarianism, oligarchy, communist state, and theocracy. Political party is a political organization that seeks to attain and maintain political power with government, usually by participating in electoral campaigns. This passage explains it with an example of USA's and Sweden's political parties. After that, it explains about voting patterns and inequality. Through gender, age, race, and class, the voting pattern is so different. And also there are many inequalities in gender, age, race, and class which is explained with graphs. In the end, this text explains USA's politics and ideology's change nowadays.

2. What was interesting

It was so interesting that there are so many types of governments. There were some of those things that I knew, I learned about oligarchy, and theocracy that I don't know before. The rest of them were commonly encountered in the past, but oligarchy and theocracy is that I didn't even know they existed. So they seem to be interested to me. Another interesting point is there is inequality in gender, age, race, and class. Since ancient times, discrimination has existed, but they are rarely fixed easily. Therefore, we must strive to break down the inequality.

3. Discussion point

There are still many inequalities in our society. And they rarely fixed easily, and there are still many people who suffer from it. And then we need to act actively to break it down. Then, is there any way to solve the problem? I think we should think about that way once in a while.
