1. summary
Deviance is acting that violate social expectation that guide human behavior. There is two type of deviance; formal deviance, informal deviance. Formal deviance is unlawful behavior including rape, murder and theft. Informal deviance is legal behavior like picking nose or belching loudly. Each culture have their own deviance. Robert K Merton is suggest two criteria about typology of deviance:motivations or adherence to cultural goals, belief in way to reach own goals. Therefore, there's four type five type of criteria; conformity, innovation, ritualism, retreatism, rebellion.
2. Interesting point
I didn't know that deviance can separate in two type and crime is a type of deviance. Also, I learned that deviance can be studied with sociology.
3. Discussion point
If one person does deviance in culture which different with he has, and the act was illegal in the culture, he has to be punished? For example, in Korea, marijuana is unlawful things. But in some other nation, it is legal. If american used marijuana in Korea, he has to be punished? Or in other case; Korean used it in America, and then?
