Introduction to Sociology/Socialiazation/HARI KIM

Summary)

Socialization is the process of preparing human beings to function in social life. People are socialized differently according to race, class, gender, sex, and religion. This differentiated socialization is not better or worse and should not be forced into evaluation judgment.
Socialization is generally divided into two parts. Primary socialization occurs early in childhood and adolescence. Secondary socialization refers to socialization that takes place throughout the whole of your life when you meet a new group that needs childhood and additional socialization. Most social scientists believe that the basic identity or core identity of an individual develops in the process of primary socialization, and that specific changes occur in secondary socialization.
Arnett distinguishes between broad and narrow socialization. Broad socialization is broadly called because it is intended to promote independence, individualism and self-expression and has the potential to produce widespread outcomes. Narrow socialization is to promote obedience and compliance. Arnett argues that the socialization of women tends to be narrower than that of men, and argues that Japanese socialization is narrower as Japanese culture becomes more pressured to coincide with the culture.
There are various definitions and theories that understand socialization. First, there is a symbolic interaction theory that the self develops as a result of interrelated social interaction and interpretive process. Second, there is a role theory that socialization is regarded as a process of acquiring proper norms, attitudes, self-image, value, and role behaviors that enable effective execution of new roles. Third, there is a strengthening theory that defines human behavior as the relationship between external stimuli and external consequences of behavior. Finally, socialization is an internationalization theory that is a series of stages in which individuals learn to participate in various levels of social composition.
In other words, socialization is the process of learning how humans function in a particular society. Socialization is very diverse in culture and there are various social norms around the world. We will have to respect each culture that has been socialized differently.

New/Interesting things I learned)

It was interesting that not all socialization was successful, but there was a social component specially designed to re-socialize individuals who were not socially successful. I learned that the most common example of it was an institution such as a mental hospital, a prison, a military boot camp, and the goal of a total educational institution was to completely destroy an old life to re-socialize an individual into a new life. However, while I learned and adopted new lessons in this process of socialization, there was a negative perception that socialization can often include suppression or enforcement of personality.
And I was interested in studying socialization in relation to social class. Ellis, Lee, and Peterson Melvin L. Kohn explored the differences in how parents raise their children compared to their social classes. At this time, Kohn found that middle-class parents tend to emphasize creativity and independence, while lower-class parents are more likely to stress their fitness. We have learned that the reason why subordinate parents emphasize the fitness of their children is because they experience fitness in their daily lives. I knew that depending on the parents' class, my children would be subject to different socialization processes, and I thought that the social classes would naturally make a difference in their thinking processes. I thought I should be a society that recognizes these differences and understands them.

People become socialized by interacting with each other. ‘Robinson Crusoe’ is a novel related to socialization. This book is a realistic story of Robinson Crusoe living alone on a remote island. Robinson Crusoe, the protagonist of the story, designs solely on the uninhabited island to create a steady, uninhabited life with creativity, research, hard work and hard work. While living well on the uninhabited island, loneliness exists to him. One day he rescues the cannibals Friday afternoon from the cannibal landing on the uninhabited island to serve as a servant. Here I would like to focus on why Robinson Crusoe could not be friends with Friday in a solitary uninhabited island and that he was a servant. The reason is that Robinson Crusoe was born in Europe at the time of the class society in which slaves existed, and I think he would have been socialized. As in the above case, it is thought that individuals who socialize are not easy to voluntarily desocialize, but are easy to act as they have been socialized in other environments. I want to hear your thoughts and why you think that once you get socialized you think it is changeable or difficult.
