1.Summary
Sociology is high satisfied major because of sociologist’s own ability. Sociology majors’ ability is appropriate for having a various occupation. Here is for example. Sociology is suitable for studing consumer patterns because sociology study about human behavior. So sociology majors can be competitive candidate for company. Also, the ability of majors in sociology can be a good opportunity for sociology majors as it is needed by NGO. Therefore, Sociology is a major that allows us to have a broader perspective than we think.
2.What was interesting/ What did you learn
Whenever I reveal my major, many people give negative responses. "What are you going to do in the future?" However, by reading this text, I realized that sociology can be applied to various fields of occupation because anyway the job is to live in a society.
3.Discussion Point
Although the text is true, it is also true that sociology majors in Korea have a hard time in finding jobs. Maybe the text is too ideal or could be applied only to other countries.
I also think that sociology major in Korea is hard to get a job. But the text we read has many jobs for sociology majors. I think it is difficult to apply this text to Korea. We must accept the text with a critical eye.

DeleteText can be idealized because it speaks the advantages of sociology. But I think it can not be said that this text does not match Korea. I believe that if people with a sociology degree in Korea use the merits of sociology and try to apply the merits to Korea, people with a sociology degree in Korea will be able to enter more diverse fields than now.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. However, I think that the problem is not the problem of Korean sociology major who can not use the ability but the prejudice of Korean society which overlooks sociology major. Individuals can become helpless when the prejudice is already in place.
DeleteI also think in that way. A few years ago, I heard that liberal arts like sociology and anthropology became popular in the states. After I heard that, I thought that maybe sociology could become popular in here too. But sociology is still not popular in Korea. Graduated students majored in sociology are hard to find a job. And watching that circumstance, high school students doesn't really wanna majoring sociology. To get a job, students like us(already majoring in sociology) even try hard to take a double major. In Korea, with these situations, we can't really say sociology makes a lot of money.. Therefore I think that text does not perfectly fit Korea.
