1. Summary
This article is a text that various methods that sociologists explain in connection with society are presented. And this article, the kind of method is also described.
Scientific methods, this is the ultimate way for sociologists to explain the theory. An important element of this is that the characterization, hypothesis, prediction, and testing repeat the four steps. And this article deals with correlations and explains quantitative methods and qualitative methods by sociological research method.
2. What was interesting/What did you learn
I was impressed that it is essential not to confuse causality and correlation. It gave me great enlightenment in the chart of ice cream and crime rates. If I had seen the chart before reading this article, it would have been much more difficult. Because I was not interested in causality and correlation. I will clarify the comparison between the two, Also, it was interesting that three rules had to be met when creating the variables.
3. Discussion point
In the text, there are sociologists who use different approaches. I wonder who they are and how they use method.

ReplyDeleteThere are macro points and microscopic points of view in society. The macro perspective is a view to explore social and cultural phenomena at the level of the whole social system, such as social institutions, structures, and social changes. A typical example of a macro perspective is functionalism and conflict theory. Representative scholars include Marx and Weber. Microscopic viewpoint is a viewpoint to explore social phenomenon and culture phenomenon focusing on interaction between individual and individual. A representative example is the symbolic interaction theory. A representative scholar is Mead. I hope this article has helped you a lot.
I was convinced to hear you. These theories were around us. Exactly, functionalism and conflict theory are examples of a representative macro perspective. I think it would be fun to have a discussion with this. For example, I would like to discuss the need for companies to have academic background and make a difference in treatment.
DeleteThere are three conditions for causality.
ReplyDeleteFirst, variables must be correlated in order to be causal.
Second, independent variable must precede change in the dependent variable in time.
Finally, the different (third) variable is not causing the change in the two variables of interest.
