Summary)
Father of conflict theory Marx
Sociologists develop theories to explain social phenomena.
This theory is an explanation of why or how phenomena occur. In this article, sociologists have argued for various theories.
The seven theories of Structural-Functionalism, Conflict Theory, Symbolic Interactionism,
Role Theory, Social Constructionism, and Feminist Theory and Integration Theory are explained.
From a macro perspective, there is structuralism and conflict theory.
Structural-functionalism focuses on equilibrium and solidarity. They say that social institutions are functionally integrated to form a stable system.
Conflict theory argues that unlike functionalism, society best comprehends that it is competition. Conflict theory focuses on change and conflict.
From a microscopic point of view, symbolic interactionism is that human behavior and interaction can only be understood through meaningful communication or exchange of symbols.
Role theory also emerged from the integration of structural and procedural symbolic interactional insights. Role theory says that human behavior is created by the expectation of the other.
Social constructivism focuses on explaining institutions and actions, not analyzing causes and consequences.
Feminist Theory uncovered a vast "herstory" of women's academic thinking, writing, and activism, and integrated insights from these essays and studies into the scientific enterprise.
And integrated insights into scientific business in these essays and studies.
Finally, integration theory combines micro- and macro-level theories to provide a comprehensive understanding of human social behavior. This shows how the various components of social life work together to influence society and behavior.
New/Interesting things I learned)
I could learn more about the concepts and limitations of each
theory about functionalism, conflict theory and symbolic interaction theory
that I was interested in. And I did not know much about the concept of
feminism, but it was good to know that it was divided into Liberal Feminism,
Marxist and Socialist Feminism, Radical, Separatist, and Cultural Feminism and
Black Feminist Thought and Queer Feminism. In conclusion, I was able to learn about various sociological theories, and it was good to be able to think about which theory I agree with.

Discussion Point)
Functionalists focusing on equilibrium and solidarity
Conflicts that focus on change and conflict have a lot of contrasting
positions. I would like to discuss whether the current Korean society should be
maintained, whether it should be competing and changing, or not, from the
position of functionalists and conflict theorists. Of course, combining these
two positions will allow for a broader and more comprehensive social
observation, but in order to better understand the two theories.

I think functionalist represents people who already got a power in our society. So they want to maintain this society to keep their power in society. Because of this reason, the gab's size between rich and poor will be not decrease or even getting bigger.
ReplyDeleteSo I prefer conflicts that can change our society and compete with vested people.
It can decrease our gab between ours and vested people, also it can help our society advance.
Thank you for your good feedback.
DeleteHowever, conflict theory leads to change, but it has the limitation that it neglects social existence and integration. There will be a part of our society that needs to be stable and integrated.
