Introduction to Sociology/Sociological Theory / Jaehyeon Seo

1.Summary
Sociological theory explains the causes and methods of social phenomena and proposes the relationship between two concepts. Sociological theory is important because it explains the social phenomena that occur around us. If sociological theories were not presented, we would not be able to understand the causes and consequences of social phenomena, or patterns, even though social phenomena may have occurred around us. There is a point in mind when identifying these sociological theories. For example, if there is a theory of function theory and conflict theory, the two theories differ, but one cannot say that one theory is better. Because both theories are useful in explaining societies, but they also have limitations too. Clearly, it is useful to accept both theories complementary.

2.Wha was interesting/What did you learn
Integration theory in this text was interesting because it was a theory that involved social theories that might feel contradictory. A integration theory explains the social phenomenon without bias. Integration theory can explain both macroscopic and microscopic perspective. I think this theory explains the social phenomenon very well.

3.Discussion Point
The sociological theory explains the relationship between two concepts. However, the relationship may be simply mistaken for a weak correlation as a strong causality. So, It would be fun to talk about the illusion between causality and correlation.

  1. I agree with your opinion. I think she is a biologically human, but not true human being. Like you said, what makes humans different from other animals is that human has a reason. People can think logically but in her case, she couldn't. I'm not sure that I heard the same case, as I heard, she eventually never adapted to human society.
