Q. Are humans really rational?
A. I don't think we are very rational. The human can be rational, but I think we can't think rationally when the thing is related to family, friends or someone who deeply related with ourselves. I think emotion influence to one's thinking a lot. So they can't be 100% rational when such circumstances happen to them. I heard much news about revenge murder. situations like these: A man killed the other man because he raped her daughter. He bit the other man because he did something bad to his family. Taking care of criminal's punishment themselves are not the rational way. Such circumstances, human can become extremely excited they just handle that situation themselves. If they can think in a rational way, they would leave the punishment to judge.
