Introduction to Sociology/Economy/Bokyung Kim

1.  Summary

We use the environment for our material needs. We call it the economy.

The economic system includes production, exchange, distribution, and consumption. As society grows, the economy grows.

In the past, goods trade appeared in social relationships within a social group. In capitalist societies, elements of capital and production are controlled. Capitalism flourished on the late Middle Ages.

The economics of capitalism develop in the interaction of money, commodities, labour power, means of production, and production.

This interaction requires individuals and businesses. We buy and sell goods and services in the market. Prices of goods and services relate to demand, supply, and competition. Worker works and companies provide wages for it. Labor unions and government agencies are involved in the proper wage. In a capitalist society, governments play important functions. It includes the issuance of money, supervision of public facilities, and prohibition of unfair practices. Capitalism is criticized because it distributes wealth and power unequally. Socialism argues the use of equal resources. Examples of socialism include Asia, Europe, and Latin America. Gdp represents gross domestic product. The Gini coefficient represents the income distribution of  a nation's residents

2.  What was interesting

I knew a little about capitalism society, but I did not know it in detail until I read this writing.

It was good to know the history and role of capitalism in detail.

I was surprised that the government has so many functions in capitalism society.

I would like my government to function well and function smoothly in our economy.

3.  Discussing point

According to this writing, in capitalist society, the minimum wage is set in most countries and the government is trying to do this. In our country, too, there is a minimum wage system, and many people are aware of it, but often do not work well. What should we do to solve this problem? I wonder your opinion.

  1. I am very pleased that you are thinking and worrying about the minimum wage system. Most of the efforts of the country have been largely followed, but in many cases, such as nightly allowances or Weekly allowance are often not followed. In order to improve this, I think that students and young people who work part-time rather than relying too much on the conscience of their bosses should look for various wage schemes and claim them to appreciate their labor value. If you browse on the internet, you can easily see a lot of information.

  2. There are many places where the minimum wage is not guaranteed such as convenience stores and reading rooms in Korea. Also, most of the weekly pay allowance and night allowance are not kept. To solve this problem requires the bwana's conscience and strong punishment. And the part-timer should be familiar with the labor law. Also simplify the process of notifying the bwana.
