Introduction to Sociology/Culture/yerim park

1. Summary

Culture encompasses objects and symbols, the meaning given to those objects and symbols, and the norms, values, and beliefs that pervade social life. "The definition is understood to include two elements - that which differentiates one group or society from others and the concept of acquired or learned behavior. EX) high culture According to this understanding of culture, some countries are more civilized than others, and some people are more cultured than others // subculture: A subculture is a culture shared and actively participated in by a minority of people within a broader culture.

2.   What is interesting

I don't know the concept of a unified model of culture that understood the culture by  Ritzer

It was impressive to analyze the theory through a comprehensive perspective. (about micro macro)

By  RitzerIt is possible to use one theory to explain culture and social behavior.

Also, all these factors are interrelated through interaction.

For example, when I analyze Korean culture,  Through Korean society, norms, behavior and customs, I can learn about culture.

3. Discussion point

I think, Culture is a product of socialization. As society progresses, culture changes.

So, We need to concentrate on sub-culture.

According to the dictionary subcultural subjects are socially marginalized in class, race, and generation.

In the social structure, it is usually located in a ' low ' or ' dependent ' position.

But, We need to understand sub-culture independently.

For example, In the  korea 1970s and 1980s, when authoritarian rebels were pitted against democracy, military culture was a dominant high culture. In this case, (high culture )the aim is to control unjust governance and ultimately end up ending military culture.

Since culture and politics are different, however, sub-culture culture does not lead to direct political movements, but promotes a political atmosphere that opposes the dictatorship by fostering awareness of unjust political power.

Comments

  1. That's good point. But I do not think any subculture is necessarily right. For example, gangster culture can be seen as a part of subculture, but it is not a right culture. We must guard against this. :)
