Introduction to Sociology/Culture/Daeun Kim

1.Summary
We have the nature and environment that defines the nature of biology and genetics and the environment that forms our identity. Likewise, we have not only biology but also culture. Culture is a social aspect of human life, and basically everything we learn is culture. Culture is more than object or behavior, culture, symbols, symbols and symbols, norms, beliefs, norms, beliefs, and beliefs.
Culture is not necessarily strict and completely unified in society. Culture continues to negotiate. Previously, people regard civilization as civilized, and some countries think that some countries are more civilized than others. So they thought the culture of lagging countries was poor.
But the concept of culture has changed. The concept of culture has changed to include a wider variety of societies. These views suggest discrimination rather than rank among other cultures. As a result, there was a belief in cultural relativism. This suggests that culture is neither better nor worse than other cultures. cultural toadyism tends to see the world in terms of its own culture. In contrast, cultural relativism is the belief that culture and values cannot be fully understood by other countries.
Cultures involve a variety of aspects that are not limited to norms of life in a particular society, including norms of norms, values, beliefs, or symbols. As a result, cultures can cover everything that can give meaning to meaning or to represent a group of people. Depending on the current culture, different meanings can be placed on the same object or symbol.  But culture is not static. It is easy to change and sometimes varies at different speeds.

2.What was the most interesting thing you have read?
It was very interesting that culture has various functions in society. Culture also appears to perform certain functions in social life. Culture can maintain order maintenance as a result of shared understanding and meaning. However, cultures have adverse effects on creating and maintaining social inequality. We must strive to overcome the adverse effects of culture in society. Because society and culture always coexist because humans are linked to social relationships.

3.Dicussion question
Cultural conflicts can occur frequently among people with different cultural backgrounds. As the world becomes globalized, the nation has become increasingly multinational. What can be done to resolve cultural conflicts?

Comments

  1. I think we can solve it through the festival. For example, in the Itaewon Global Village Festival, people in various countries can enjoy other culture’s food and some activity. Through this we can experience other culture indirectly and it’s nice chance to solve Cultural conflict between cultures.

  2. I think we should understand that difference is not a wrong thing. Some people tend to think that if another culture is different with ours, then that culture is wrong. And we also should teach to the child that there are lots of different cultures which are not wrong. I think, if a child can learn about the different culture in young age(before they have negative thoughts about other cultures) they would easily understand the difference between culture.
