3.Discussion Questions
there are 3 'Discussion Questions' in the text.
Let's answer one of them.
" How might sociologists think about the world differently from other people? "
I think sociologists are people who can see trees and forests at the same time. It means that we can understand and utilize various perspectives.
Because we are analyzing the characteristics of a group well, we can predict the behavior of a particular individual as well as a group.
Also, We can analyze the meaning of the data and make it useful information.
I am curious about the answers of other students.(o^▽^o)
1. summary
Most of the content was about the career of sociologists.
' Examples : The Corporate World, Non-Governmental Organizations, Continuing Your Education, PhD Degree Occupations '
In the article, there are many techniques that can be learned from the sociology major.
" Examples : identifying ethical issues in research, developing evidence-based arguments, evaluating different research methods, writing reports that are understandable by non-sociologists, forming causal hypothesis, using computers to develop reference lists, interpreting the results of data analysis, and using statistical software. "
Also, the sociology major has a high job satisfaction and major satisfaction. (me too...!)
2. What was interesting/what did you learn
In fact, I am surprised that sociology majors have very high job satisfaction and major satisfaction.
the text Explain reasons as follows :
" This may be due to the fact that Sociologists are often engaged in trying to remedy social ills, which can be a very satisfying life pursuit. "
I like this sentence very much, because I have this kind of inquiring mind .
and, In Korea, many People think sociology is not good for Getting a Job.
cuz most people do not know what sociologists are trained to do. (maybe including my future bosses!!ㅠㅠ )
so i think that sociology majors have to be double major in Sociology and Business or minor in Business or whatever.
However! I read this and changed my mind positively.
I realized that sociology is very synergistic academic discipline based on the premise of fusion.
My interest is in illustration, design, and web publishing, and I expect that the skills to learn from the sociology department will be fused with this.

I completely agree with your answers. I also think the biggest difference between sociologist and non-sociologist is the perspective. Non-sociologists figure out a circumstance just see at the moment, and just one side. And sociologist try to figure out various background, and circumstances.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your opinion definitely. Sociologist learns lots of theory about social context. Therefore, a sociologist has wide knowledge about the world situation and sociologist has amazing insight about the world situation. So I think sociologist can analyze the world situation from various angles.
ReplyDeleteI also have a very similar idea to your answer to the question. Because sociology majors can look at society through what is taught differently than non - majors. It is as if you can look at society by projecting a lens of sociological vision.
