Introduction to Sociology/Being a Sociologist/Hee chan kim

1. Summary

This article is related to the merits of sociology. Unlike many people think, those who majored in sociology are likely to enter various fields and have access to any job. It is also a good way to connect with other disciplines to make sociology more abundant. You can go to graduate school for further study and learn more. First of all, those who majored in sociology are more satisfied than others.

2. What was interesting/what did you learn

The most interesting part of reading this article is that sociology is part of the job. I did not know much about sociology, and if I got a degree in sociology, I did not know where I was at work. The most memorable sentence in this article is "Sociology includes many skills (such as communication skills, statistics, etc.). These are very useful in the workplace, so companies tend to welcome sociology majors." Especially, the fact that many companies are welcoming sociology broke my common sense.
What I learned as I read was learning through sociology. Of course I knew dimly but I did not know the details.

In my opinion, I learned that if I majored in sociology, I could acquire things like statistical software that were not directly related to sociology. I felt the appeal of sociology at this point.

3. Discussion Point

I honestly felt that while reading this article, it was realistically written on the basis of people living in developed countries like England.
Especially, Korea, which we live in, has grown into a semiconductor industry, and it is doubtful that companies will be more receptive to sociology than those who majored in electricity, electronics, or machinery. I would like to hear from other students.

  2. i agree that sociology is not welcomed a little in korea's companies.
But Does these phenomenon occur because Korea has grown into a semiconductor industry really?
Do all advanced countries really like sociology? and don't all developing countries and industrial contries like sociology?
I think the state of the country (whether it's an advanced country or not) is not right criteria.
I think socioloy majors's wage and treat is influenced by social's many factors
