Introduction to Sociology/Being a Sociologist/Minjeong Lee

1. Summary

Most Sociology majors are satisfied with studying Sociology. But after graduation, they are dissatisfied with narrow career choice and lack of employment. Contrary to this idea, Sociology majors can get jobs in various field and study Sociology more deeply after graduation. During studying Sociology, they acquire skills to strength in business. If they want, they can study Sociology in a PhD process. There are many opportunities for Sociology majors.

2. New/Interesting/Unusual things I learned

“Sociology is one of the top-ten highest-paying rare jobs in the United States and is generally rated as one of the most satisfying occupations.”

This sentence was the most surprising and unbelievable. Studying Sociology in Korea was recognized as a meaning of almost giving up employment. If you know our major was at risk for merge now, you can know where Sociology is located in Korea society.

3. Discussion

According to the text, Sociology majors can advance into every field. I think that it is opinion without consideration of majors in each field. Because there are many majors in each field, it is difficult to advance to that field. If you advance to other field, it is hard to make good results because you lack knowledge or experience compared to majors. I want to know other students’ idea about this.

  2. I agree with your opinion once. People with degrees in sociology have the advantage of being able to enter various fields. However, we must think about the competitiveness of those who majored in the field. In order to have a competitive edge, I think that I need to improve my ability to use those skills well when I get my skills to have a sociology degree.

    1. Thanks for giving your opinion. I think it is a good strategy. Nevertheless, enhancing ability irrelevant to Sociology so as to enter other fields would not be so much glad for Sociology majors.
