Introduction to Sociology/Being a Sociologist/Geonwoo Lee

1.summary

The text tells us that social studies can be correlated with various fields of social science and social studies. People majoring in sociology can enter society with a lot of skill, such as simple reporting and ability to use statistical skills. Those who are trained as a major in education are able to apply to many areas and thus proceed to many areas.

2. What was interesting

I am surprised that sociology can progress into various fields. In Korea, social studies are considered to be a difficult area for employment. After majoring in sociology, I learned that I could learn more about learning skills and learned that I could learn more about learning skills.

3.Discussion Point

As I said before, sociology can enter many fields. It may be said that it is the foundation of many fields, but if you think about it again, you may think that it is a depthless science. Of course, you can study deepening as you enter graduate school. However, majors who have not graduated from graduate school enter the society without being educated. There are people who are successful in this situation, but there are people who fail. So what do you think about these things?

Comments

  1. I agree about sociology may can be thought of as a depthless science. But if you select a part of sociology majors, and studying profoundly so becoming professional about that part, you can makes sociology has high competitiveness. For example, if you select a social stactics and study profoundly and use social stactics usefully such as use in handling big data and use it to analyze corporate trends.

  3. I'm very interesting about you discussion point. However I don't agree about your depth of Sociology. For example HYU have some curriculum. We can learn Sociology based on 'Big Data' and you also learn about 'Access' or 'Python' to use our source in many field.
In shorts, People who majoring Sociology in university can success in many field if they served many curriculum to use their knowledge in society.

    1. Thank you for telling me your thoughts. I agree with you somewhat. There is a curriculum for every grade in college, and depending on the curriculum, I get some more intensive education. But I do not think that getting the education will give every student the ability to have a corresponding curriculum. A student who falls out of his / her own efforts occurs. I think that the degree of sociology would be of no use when such students entered many areas after graduation. But what if the student received more specialized education than sociology?

  4. Whatever field you majored in, anyone can succeed or fail. I don’t agree that sociology majors who have not graduated from graduate school enter society without education. In the text, students with bachelor's degrees in sociology learn skills that are useful for a variety of occupations. In other words, I think sociology majors can learn useful skills in society without studying to graduate school.

    1. Thank you for telling me your thoughts. I wanted to hear a different opinion. As you said, this text says that people with a sociology degree learn skills that can be used in a variety of fields. But I think the ability of people who use that skill is more important. Some may use useful skills, but others do not. So I think that if the sociology education that I am learning now is a deeper process, I can solve it.

  5. Your discussion point is interesting. I think who has only bachelor’s degree of sociology easily fail at job market. But it isn’t sociology’s fault. Sociology is not Technique, it is fundamental Social science. Thus, who don’t have any skill or anything for get a job must fail. However, universities already know this problem and provide many curriculums for students. And each student must also strive.
