1. SUMMARY
In any society, culture is not completely strict uniform. Social theorists like Michel Foucault, Peter Berger and Thomas Luckmann, Erving Goffman, and George Herbert Mead say that language changes cultures. Languages constantly negotiate with culture, changing according to each group.
'High' Culture
I think all groups have a single sense of sophistication. People in this culture do not usually think that cultures have different cultures. They are simply considered uneducated.
The Changing Concept of Culture
Each ethnic group is characterized by its unique and intangible worldview. However, it still permits discrimination between civilized cultures and primitive or tribal culture. High culture does not mean culture that is no longer cultivated. High culture refers to the objects, symbols, norms, values, and beliefs of certain groups of people, such as popular culture.
The Artificiality of Cultural Categorization
The difference between culture and society is artificial, but this difference is artificial. Humans do not experience culture in separate ways independent of society. Separation are useful in explaining the historical development of a particular social structure and the sustainability or loss of social inequality within society.
Subcultures & Countercultures
Subculture is a culture that is culturally shared and actively participate in a broader culture by ethnic minorities. Culture often involves numerous subcultures.
Ethnocentrism & Cultural Relativism
Ethnocentrism tends to look at the world from its own perspective. It will judge the cultures of different groups based on their own interests, such as their own, behaviors, customs, and religion. Cultural relativity says cultural relativity can not be fully understood or fully understood in other languages.
The Function of Culture
Culture also plays a certain role in social life. Culture provides culture from a social perspective, solve confusion, and inspires certain behaviors. On the other hand, it can cause social discontent. Therefore, it should continue to research cultural practices and meaning that it is not necessary to maintain cultural practices and to sustain minority groups.
2. what was interesting
It was curious to see that cultural awareness continues to evolve and develop. It was interesting to note that in addition to high culture such as ballet, people who thought otherwise and were considered uneducated and uncivilized, gradually recognized their culture. Thus, I have seen that there is a growing perception that cultural discrimination that appears in the culture is more likely to evolve over time as time passes.
3. Discussion
I think there was hope that the discrimination inherent in the cultural relativity could vanish in articles. I would like to talk about how this discrimination can make it disappear more sooner.
The surest way to eliminate discrimination is education. Since childhood, if students learn that all people in the world are equal, discrimination will be disappeared in society. These days, we have such moves in Korea. Feminists have campaigned with slogan 'We need feminist teachers'. I think there is nothing can changing our lives other than education.
ReplyDeleteRegarding your question, I think we need to change from our perception to eliminate discrimination. Because we grew up seeing a lot ofwords and actions of discrimination from childhood, we can have stereotypes unconsciously. Therefore , I consciously think that we should try to eliminate such stereotypes and try to think of everyone equally.
ReplyDeleteI think teaching about a different culture at the school is the best way. When I was students, I was taught math, English, science but I don't have much chance to know or to learn about other cultures. So if the school teaches students about different cultures, they naturally learn about other cultures and they might better at understanding other cultures. Because they are going to be familiar with other cultures.
