Population cliff phenomenon

The Biggest Problem of Low Fertility - Population Cliff Phenomenon

Intro

In this posting, I came to think deeply about the phenomenon of population cliff. I am sure that the population of Korea is gradually decreasing. The elderly are seen more and the children are less visible. What will happen to our country if this population cliff continues? So why is the population cliff phenomenon in our country?

Definition of population cliff phenomenon

First of all, the phenomenon of population cliffs refers to the phenomenon that the ratio of the producible population (15 to 64 years) is rapidly decreasing. It is a concept presented by Harident, a prominent American economist. The consensus is that the second half of the forties, who spend the most, are experiencing a massive contraction in consumption. When a population cliff occurs, economic activity such as production and consumption is shrunk and a serious economic crisis occurs.

The reason for the population cliff phenomenon in Korea

The reason why Korea faces the phenomenon of the population cliff is that the population restraint policy can be considered first. Our country restrained to give birth to only two children per family because it gave birth to too many children in the 60s and 70s. And various policies for that. For example, she said that it is poisoning to plant a lot of children by planting small children's values. I also know how to prevent the birth of a child after having sex after having sex without knowing the birth of a child to have sex in the country. This policy continued until the 1990s and eventually became a problem of low birth rate in the 2000s.
The biggest reason for the low birth rate problem is the changed values since the IMF. The marriage was delayed due to the change of values, and even if married, only one child was born, or the child was not. Also, as the human rights of women increased, the problem of low birthrate went to the mountains. Because of this, according to the National Statistical Office, Korea is expected to decline sharply after peaking at 37.44 million in 2016.

Interesting point & Discussion point

The most interesting thing about this posting was that I was able to learn what the phenomenon of population cliffs is. I also realized that the problem of low fertility in Korea is very serious now. What do you think about these issues? I would like to share the same opinion with you.

  1. I also think that the problem of low fertility in Korea is serious. Korea 's total fertility rate is 1.08, the world' s lowest, and faces the most serious problem of low fertility among the OECD countries. We have to solve this problem because population is the most basic foundation for the growth and maintenance of the nation. Low birth rates are due to high education costs, increased women's social advancement, and increased non-regular workers. In order to cope with low fertility, it is necessary to reduce the burden from marriage and childbirth to raising and educating children and independence through employment and marriage.
