Introduction to Sociology/Stratification/Hyeon jik Kim

1. Summary

This chapter deal with stratification. First, in introduction part, Determine which stratification this article will cover first. After saying that this chapter will focus on economic stratification, this introduction part ends with referring to the direction of the content to be covered in the following part. In the subsequent socioeconomic status part, this page introduces three elements that are the basis for dividing the hierarchy. It is power, property and prestige, and each part is defined and this part is over. In the next part, this page first presents the economic inequalities of whites and blacks, whites and Hispanics in the United States. Then, after explaining the origin of inequality in the age, it suggests why inequality persists and argues that inequality should be resolved. Next, this page explains the viewpoints of various theories of stratification. From the viewpoint of structural function theory and conflict theory, the viewpoint of stratification is revealed, and each theory criticizes each other. Finally, this page divides the effects of stratification in micro, meso and macro layers, then extends the stratification viewpoint to the global inequality stage and this page ends.

2. Interesting point

In the example of the dependency part, The part "Some of the land in Cape Verde for example, could be planted and harvested to feed people, but planted instead of cash crops for foreign exchange. Due to indebtedness and foreign dependence, fresh produce is regularly sold or changed to a nonperishable type such as canned tuna for export rather than consumed by the population. " was interesting. It was unfortunate that it was not possible to cultivate even the smallest crops that they could eat. It was a new shock to me that they had to grow cash crops even though they could live on their own because they were subordinate to the great powers.

In the Consequences of Inequality part, the percentage of people living on less than $ 2 a day in 'the world' is presented. And, In korea, If you go to the streets, There are some people who beg and beg for a day, and elderly people who pick up abandoned paper for their life. So, who should we place more importance on between the poor of the world and the poor of our country? Someone says that we have to solve our country's problems first and solve the problems of other countries, and someone says that we should help people who need help regardless of their nationality. I am curious about your opinion. Tell me your arguments and why.

  3. I think it is personal freedom to help relieve the poor.
There should be no forced or imposed coercion on them to assist someone in their personal dimensions. So, in your question I will answer this. If you want to help someone, it doesn't matter who he is or who he lives in.

It would be very difficult if individuals had to prioritize for the poor.
The relief of the poor at the national and international levels will require prioritization of salvation, but if you are willing to make a contribution or voluntary service in a purely spirit of helping others, follow your heart leads.
