Introduction to Sociology/deviance/seo jeong woo

1.summary
This document describes the definition of deviance theory that is divided in two types(formal, informal) and Social-Strain Typology about Typesetting of deviant behavior by Robert K. Merton
It also introduce the Structural-Functionalism, conflict theory, labeling theory, and categories of criminal statistics (incarceration ratios and demographics, gender, race, etc.).
last, in current research, Documents describes hot issues such as video games, tattoos, and sexual violence in universities.

2.new/interesting
First of all, it was interesting to divide the deviation into formal (crime) and informal (against social discipline).
Social-Strain Typology, which is the idea that divided into five categories(conformity, innovation, ritualism, retreatism, rebellion) by Robert K. Merton for distinguishing abnormal behaviors, was fascinating.
the Structural-Functionalism is also unique because It did not seem deviation is always a bad thing.
It was sympathize that the Characteristics of white-collar crime in the collision theory(Insufficient evidence, commited by the people in the high class) were also applied to the domestic society.
And the labeling theory did not understand the initial interpretation, so it was good to understand after i saw examples of The disclosure information about sex offenders

3.discussion
I want to deal with the effects of violent video games in current research category, which is the final category of the document.
in my opinion, I believe that violent games do not arouse violence, but rather solve internal stresses in a healthy direction.
I would like to hear another opinion as well.

Comments

  1. I think video games solve our inner stress too.
However, there are the assumption that playing violent video games will lead children to act out violently.
Also I think that violent games make it easier to approach violence.
