Introduction to Sociology/Race and Ethnicity / Minji moon

1. summary

Race means the concept of human species classified on the basis of physical characteristics. It is common to classify them as having genetically common ancestry. The characteristics of different races are most often revealed by regional differences. From this point of view, race can be regarded as a result of mankind adapting to different living environments. When distinguishing races, they generally classify physical characteristics such as facial structure, especially skin color.

Historically, there has been discrimination among races, and sometimes the gap between species has been discussed because of the genetic qualities of certain ethnic minorities. Racial discrimination may occur on an individual level, and racial discrimination may occur systematically. In the past, there was a law prohibiting marriage to other species.

2. interesting things

It was interesting that there was a law in the United States prohibiting other racial marriages.
Although the United States is a land of immigrants
Americans discriminated against race. It was very surprising and unpleasant that even the law officially discriminated against race.

3. discussion point

Many people say that racial discrimination is not possible.
Maybe you will too.
But are not you really racist?
Is it unconsciously favorable to white people and unkind to Southeast Asian people?
Do not you hate Jung-gu people?
Why do you do these things while hating racism?

Comments

  1. I agree with your thoughts. And the reason for such a problem is the double standard. It is wrong to think that if you make a mistake, there is a reason and if someone makes a mistake, it is unconditionally bad. It is important to look back at you before you criticize other people for opposing racial discrimination.
